Readiness for school or formalised learning is influenced by a number of factors, including the child’s emotional, physical and intellectual development. The school readiness assessment assesses the whether the child has the foundational knowledge required for formalised education. In other words the school readiness assessment will help determine whether a child is ready to attend school.
School readiness assessments will look at the child’s:
- Emotional development (including their emotional maturity, the development of social skills, the ability to separate from parents, etc.)
- Physical development (for instance, their fine and gross motor skills)
- Cognitive development (for example, their general intelligence, language skills, memory, verbal and visual learning, attention and concentration, eye-hand coordination for pen and paper tasks, planning ability, etc.)
