Family and relationship therapy works with families and individuals in order to help facilitate change and development between one another. As such, therapists help individuals identify constructive ways in which they can help each other. The therapy inherently acknowledges the contexts of people’s families and relationships, and promotes the sharing and respecting of individuals’ different perspectives, beliefs, views and stories. The therapist will also support individuals in their attempt to explore new, positive ways forward. Thus, the therapists are not only supportive of changes within an individual, but also supportive of changes between various parties and their ways of relating to one another.
